Broke And Going Out

I woke up and was able to let go of a slight depressed feeling.
I should be able to be happy despite not having gone out the night before, knowing then that this would mean waking up broke and without a cigarette, as I was doing.

But, I had coffee, and new money on the food card and soon Jacob came by and brought me to a "salvage" store that he calls "one of the best known secrets in Kenner (Loiusiana)" where I was able to fill two screens on the register with items with the total of only 31 dollars and change at the bottom.

A 3 dollar gallon of "not from concentrate" orange juice, and a ten pound 3 dollar bag of frozen broccoli were the "big" purchases I made.
There were items listed at 38 cents (mustard, yogurt) and 25 cents (cucumbers) and you could get a dozen beef franks for $1.35, for example.
If I drank, I would be in wine heaven at that place, and, as soon as I have cash rather than food stamps, there was cat food galore. Some of the 30 dollar bags of exotic cat food with ingredients like pheasant which are "grain free" etc. were there for ten bucks...
I'm going to have to get going soon. I will know how much money I make busking tonight by counting how much is in my pocket when I get home...

  1. Oh, I know what kind of store, we used to call it a "used food" store, it's like ... surplus foods ... You often find nice stuff like kalamata olives and exotic stuff like that.

I could probably hit New Orleans in a few years with enough saved to pay rent for a year and basically live on, and build up a business again buying shit and selling it on Ebay. But frankly the crime rate in New Orleans is really off-putting.

Comments, to me are like deflated helium balloons with notes tied to them, found on my back porch in the morning...
