Cloudy Sunday

There isn't a whole lot going on here, mostly because I haven't been doing a whole lot.

I haven't been able to bring myself to go out and busk for a whole week now, and have run out of money.

Just checking in...

  1. Nothin' like being broke to get a busker back out on the pitch...

  2. It's called internal vs. external goals. Someone who's motivated by external goals like paying the rent, buying cigs, etc is going to do whatever they feel will pay the most for the least amount of effort. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's what most people do. But those who are motivated by internal goals (want to write the Great American Novel, want to explore in music and create things with names like Atom Heart Mother or Dog Breath Variations) tend to accomplish more.

It's easy to say, "Yeah, if they don't starve first" but it's pretty heard to actually starve these days. There's just so much that's thrown out, and it's amazing, if you're not a total skeezeball, people will notice that you're doing something and will come up with a place to stay for you, etc.

  3. "Heard" geez, my spelling/grammar/propensity to malapropisms might get as bad as Daniel's if I'm not careful!

  4. That is a good analysis, @Alex, My goal has always been a state of mind; and whether or not I am living under a wharf or in a palace when I achieve that peace of mind, is totally ancillary to it.
But, if you're happy and you know it, people always want you to show it, by clapping your hands or something...

  5. Accomplishment is relative and mostly false in the grand scheme of things.
State of mind, attitude, IS the most important thing.
Highly 'accomplished' composer Frank Zappa (using one of Alex's examples *Dog Breath Variations*) had no appreciation of the outdoors, by his own admission being in nature meant nothing to him. His life was lived in his office, recording studio, jetliner cabins and hotel rooms. It was reported by one of his band while on tour break in Barcelona, normally reclusive Frank was spotted tiptoeing out to the beach in a pair of shorts and flip flops looking very uncomfortable and out of his element. He went back to the hotel room after only 15 min.
LOL, poor guy, just didn't know how to " dig it while it's happening" I guess...

Enjoying life is much more important than any so called 'accomplishment' IMO

  6. Huh that's funny about Zappa .... I grew up spending HOURS watching ants march along a tree root, looking for seashells, hiking, all sorts of nature-y things. Spent hours out surfing (small windward side waves) or fishing or beachcombing.

It amazes me that there are people who grew up in Hawaii like I did, and are pretty much like Frank Zappa, just not into the nature thing at all.
